Northway Arts & Gardening Club

A community garden in the city

Northway Arts & Gardening Club was created as a place where people can connect with each other and nature within a city housing estate.

We are a group of local residents and volunteers who care about our environment and green spaces in Northway.

By combining community food growing with art, writing and making, our regular workshops encourage shared ownership and collaboration.

Children and adults create colorful posters with drawings and messages about conservation on a table covered with a blue tablecloth decorated with animals and plants. Art supplies and two potatoes are on the table.

A garden that grows ideas

Plants, people and creative practices all evolve together here. The garden at Northway Community Centre changes with the seasons, and so does our programme — shaped by the local people who take part and the interests of the local community.

We have a strong partnership with Northway Together (CIC) and Northway Community Centre, where our activities happen. We also work with other local organisations and schools.

Who it’s for

Northway Arts & Gardening Club is open to everyone, including:

  • Local artists and makers

  • Gardeners curious about community growing in an urban landscape

  • Families and individuals looking for welcoming cultural spaces

  • Anyone interested in creativity, nature and community

  • No artistic or gardening experience is required — just curiosity and a willingness to take part. All activities are relaxed and free.

All our workshops, whether indoor or outdoor, are designed to be accessible, welcoming and led at a gentle pace.

Our aims

  • To create greener, brighter spaces in and around our urban community

  • To connect people to their food and be excited about growing it

  • To encourage growing for physical exercise and mental well-being

  • To give people ownership over and connection to their local places

  • To upcycle and reuse materials to reduce waste and learn new skills

  • Use natural resources creatively to enjoy expressing ourselves through the arts, crafts, and growing.
